Really big bulbs ! What are the biggest bulbs in the world?
Переглядів 1,1 тис.2 роки тому
We dig Crinum 'Summer Glow' and 'Super Ellen' on a warm December day. There probably are bigger bulbs in the world than crinum. These are super huge but not even our biggest on the farm. We explain why ours, big as they are, don't get as big as they might in a garden.

    That's very helpful! Thank you! My crinum is huge and very healthy, although it freezes in the winter here in southern Kyushu, Japan. It is bright green and very happy. I wonder if I can divide it now, or it I should wait for it to die back in the winter?

    Why aren't my crinum lilies blooming? I've had these lilies for years. I've moved them to sun, no sun. Still no blooms. I've gotten one or 2 blooms throughout the years. The bloom is a very light pink. I'm in SC also

    An ideal plant for kiddies to grow, they will soon see the fruits of their planting and then next year enjoy the unbelievable scent of these beauties. I was given some seeds from a big Crinum whilst on holiday in S. Carolina and planted them back at home in the UK, and every one succeeded. They are now giants, the bulbs swelling to around 15cm to 18cm across! Oh, that's 6 to 7 inches! They stand around 1m (1yd) tall and look dazzling. Crinum offset freely so each season I have bulbs for friends and family. Thank you Charleston Parks & Recreation Dept., your love and care is spreading far and wide.

    So with no bulbs, - for instance, you accidently cut a pup off,- this pup is going to die, right? Even in water? It's not pushing roots in water?..

    I love crinums and have a few now and will get more but I noticed the nandina also mentioned and I have been looking for a particular nandina variety that has thin leaves like this one in video can't remember the full name but it starts with Saint. Can anyone tell me where I might find this cultivar please I've been looking for over 30 years.

    I have a whole patch of these. Got a few bags of pods with seeds. They are absolutely huge (Agave Americana) and sometimes 5 a year go to seed and die. Sheep are even eating them.

    I've been wondering what to do with mine! We have several patches, but one is so big, and the leaves are so long, that I had to build a make-shift fence around it this year to keep them upright. Next project acquired!

    I have some gorgeous white giant crinum Lillie’s that I grew from seeds. I enjoyed setting them out and watching them grow! I picked the seeds from a mature plant and out of 37 seeds I grew 32 lilies, talk about easy! Can’t wait for spring to see them manifest into beautiful plants! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

    Welding gloves work - I wore mine but then removed them and picked up a loose offshoot with my bare hand like a dumbass. When you get a tiny spine lodged in a finger like I did, it's almost impossible to get out. They seem to keep on penetrating inwards. I cut it out eventually using my swiss knife (and a magnifying glass) and scraped the wound clear of any debris. If you leave the spine, it causes painful inflammation and necrosis.

    I have a question. I have several hundred crinum lilies and they bloom but I never get a seed pod. I have other types of lilies that put the seed pods on. I’ve had them about ten years. I have a lavender color and a whole bunch of the blood red ones. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

    • @farmlush

      They are most likely sterile hybrids. Most crinum in gardens are. So there's nothing to do to change that.

    • @farmlush
      @farmlush 2 роки тому

      The hybrids are often sterile! If they've never seeded, they probably never will.

    That's a pretty big agave, but the 3-4' foot ones, you can cover the agave with an old throw rug to avoid getting stabbed. It's a 2-person job.
